For this reason, information on existingmodels and situations in other countries may be very helpful in proposing specific modelsand discussing further steps for launching career advising services in Croatia. In this article, theorigins, background and models of career advising services in Poland will be discussed.The idea of career advising services appeared in Poland over 10 years ago when the situationof Poland was to some extent similar to that of Croatia now, especially with respect to its stagein the EU accession process (although there are clear differences in country scale and number ofhigher education institutions in each country). Since 1993, the idea of career advising serviceshas been developing and has resulted, in 2006, in over 200 career advising services operating athigher education institutions (hereafter HEI), public and private alike.
