three years, graduates with new types of degrees will be entering the labour market and theyagree that the employers do not know enough about the new types of degrees. Likewise, everyoneagrees that further efforts will have to be made in order to bring the information to employerssince the new degrees require a re-classification of job descriptions within labour regulationsboth in the public and private sector. This fact of new academic degrees is further compounded bythe existence of a growing number of professional higher education degrees which produce stillother types of qualifications. It therefore seems evident that in a few years there will be manynew types of qualifications on the labour market. This situation will most likely require significantefforts in disseminating information about the changes among all the relevant stakeholders(students, graduates, university staff, employers, the general public), as well as training moreprofessionals who will be able to interpret and use this information. However, it also needs to besaid that respondents feel there is still enough time to make the necessary adjustments to thesystem of new qualifications since the reform is at the very beginning and there will be a fewyears before its impact on the labour market.574.6. ConclusionsBased on the information collected and analysed from the survey and interviews, three mainconclusions can be drawn from the research as a whole:1.2.3.Regarding the current availability of information about employment after graduation forstudents at Croatian universities, the university system offers little or no assistance. Abouthalf of the students, 52.6%, are mostly or completely unsatisfied with the available information.Furthermore, students’ sources of information about employment mostly come from acombination of informal sources at university (colleagues and professors) and outside university(family and other contacts outside of university). 43.9% of Croatian students getinformation from contacts outside university, 39.4% from student colleagues, 25.8% fromfamily and 20.9% from professors.Regardless of the university, the research findings show that Croatian students express aneed for activities typically organised by career advising services. At all six universities theactivity of individual counselling is ranked as most important. However, within these overallpositive and similar ratings of activities at all six universities, research findings have shownthat specificities related to the individual setting of each of the six universities do exist. Furthermore, students rate very positively the usefulness of all the listed workshop themes thatcareer advising services could offer. Positive ratings were given by at least 80% of studentsfor each of the topics, indicating that there is a clearly expressed need for such trainings.According to the information obtained through interviews, relevant stakeholders for the developmentof potential career advising services - vice-rectors for student affairs, offices ofthe Croatian Chamber of Economy, offices of the Croatian Employment Service and heads ofStudent Centres - judge such an initiative as useful. Universities, however, are faced withother priorities within an undergoing reform which is following European Bologna Processguidelines, so currently there are no detailed plans for the development of such a service.Student needs for career advising services in Croatian universities: Research results & report
