IntroductionThomas Farnell 2Educational Programmes Coordinator, Institute for the Development of Education, CroatiaThe models of career advising services for Croatian universities presented in this chapter weredrafted by representatives of the six Croatian universities. They were developed during a projectseminar held at the University of Rijeka on 5-7 June 2006, co-organised by the Institute for theDevelopment of Education and the University of Rijeka 3To assist Croatian universities in thinking about the types of career advising services modelsfor their institutions, the seminar included presentations by members of the project’s ExpertTeam 4 on career advising services currently operating in the UK and Poland. Additionally, a presentationwas held describing the options available for establishing career advising services, bothin terms of the operations of the career advising services (activities and target groups) as wellas their management (particularly in terms of staff, financing and location in the university’sadministrative structure).3In the seminar, the term “career advising services” was shortened to the acronym “CAS” for purposes of simplification. The descriptionsof each model in this chapter will therefore refer to career advising services as “CAS”.4A list of members of the project’s Expert Team and their biographies can be found as Appendix IV of this handbook.
