71CAS operationsThe activities chosen by the University of Rijeka for the CAS model include:• Information services: Delivering information to students should be the raison d’être forestablishing CAS. This means it should start with the provision of certain printed and webresources.• Individual and/or group counselling: At the beginning, group counselling would probably bethe central activity.• Employer fairs: Similar events organised lately by the web-based company “MojPosao” seemto be quite attractive to students and their experience might be useful in this regard.Other activities - training sessions, advertising vacancies and employer presentations - areall also important. However, these could be introduced gradually and a bit later. The priority activity would be group career guidance. Following the initial period after establishingCAS, it would certainly be necessary to introduce the remaining three activities (particularlyindividual career guidance). The priority target group is the one defined as students, although employers are certainlynot to be left out.CAS managementIn terms of the scope of CAS services, the service should be centralised (for all schools and departmentsat the University) with open possibility for individual schools to form their own, morespecialised services. It would be very difficult to start with just one person working in the CAS office, although, atthe same time, to expect more than two people to be employed at the outset would be unrealistic(having in mind employment policy in higher education). The two employees working on launchingCAS at the University could receive additional assistance by engaging volunteers (e.g. peoplecurrently working at the Student Counselling Centre providing individual and group psychologicalcounselling to students).Regarding the physical location, the best “strategic” space for CAS at the University wouldbe the University Campus. This would be an ideal solution for the placement of CAS. However, since the campus is not yet completed, the next best “strategic” space might be a central univer-Models of career advising services in Croatian universities
