Configuring a CA Enterprise Log Manager FederationYou can combine meshed and hierarchical federations to make any configurationthat suits your needs. For example, a meshed configuration within a singlebranch could be very useful for global deployments. You could obtain a globaloverview of data from the parent reporting servers, while maintaining regionalclusters (branches) that have access only to their own data.Configuring a CA Enterprise Log Manager FederationEach CA Enterprise Log Manager server that you add to a federation mustreference the same application instance name on the management server. Inthis way, the management server can store and manage all of the configurationstogether, as global configurations. You can configure the federation at any time, but it is useful to do so before youbegin scheduling reports, if you want consolidated reports.Configuring a federation involves the following activities:1. Create a federation map.2. Install the first CA Enterprise Log Manager, the management server.3. Install one or more additional servers.4. Configure the parent/child relationships. For example, begin by selectingfederation children of the management server from this server's event logstore settings. This first group of child servers forms the second layer, or tier, of thefederation if you are configuring a hierarchical federation.5. View the Federation Graph to verify that the structure between the servers inthe parent and child tiers is configured as you intended.Configure a CA Enterprise Log Manager Server as a Child ServerConfiguring one CA Enterprise Log Manager server as the child of another is theessential step in creating a federation. Use this procedure to add servers to yourfederation at any time. You must install all of the CA Enterprise Log Managerservers you want to federate under the same registered application instancename prior to performing this part of the configuration. As you install each newserver, its name appears in the list of servers available for federation. You canperform this procedure as many times as is necessary to create the federatedstructure you want.Chapter 7: Creating Federations 159
