Creating Virtual <strong>CA</strong> <strong>Enterprise</strong> <strong>Log</strong> <strong>Manager</strong> ServersCreate a New Virtual MachineUse this procedure to create a new virtual machine using the VMwareInfrastructure Client. Use four processors for each virtual <strong>CA</strong> <strong>Enterprise</strong> <strong>Log</strong><strong>Manager</strong> server to achieve acceptable performance.To create a virtual machine1. Access the VMware Infrastructure Client.2. Right-click the ESX host in the left pane and select New Virtual Machine toinvoke the new virtual machine wizard. This action displays a configurationtype dialog.3. Select Custom configuration and click Next. A name and location dialogappears.4. Enter a name for the <strong>CA</strong> <strong>Enterprise</strong> <strong>Log</strong> <strong>Manager</strong> server you will install on thisvirtual machine and click Next.5. Specify the storage settings for your virtual machine and then click Next.Verify that your storage settings are large enough for your <strong>CA</strong> <strong>Enterprise</strong> <strong>Log</strong><strong>Manager</strong> server. We recommend a minimum of 500 GB.Note: You will set up additional virtual disk drives to store collected eventlogs in another procedure.6. Select Red Hat <strong>Enterprise</strong> Linux 5 (32 bit) as your Guest Operating Systemand click Next.7. Select 4 as the number of virtual processors from the drop-down list,Number of virtual processors.Your physical host server must be able to devote four, physical CPUsexclusively to this <strong>CA</strong> <strong>Enterprise</strong> <strong>Log</strong> <strong>Manager</strong> instance. Click Next.8. Configure the virtual machine memory size and then click Next. Theminimum acceptable memory size for <strong>CA</strong> <strong>Enterprise</strong> <strong>Log</strong> <strong>Manager</strong> is 8 GB or8192 MB.9. Configure your network interface connection (NIC).<strong>CA</strong> <strong>Enterprise</strong> <strong>Log</strong><strong>Manager</strong> requires at least one network connection. Select NIC x from theavailable NIC list, and set the Adapter value to Flexible.Note: You do not have to configure a separate NIC for each <strong>CA</strong> <strong>Enterprise</strong><strong>Log</strong> <strong>Manager</strong> server hosted on this physical server. However, you do have toallocate and assign a static IP address for each one.10. Select the option, Connect at Power On, and then click Next. The I/O AdapterTypes dialog appears.11. Select LSI <strong>Log</strong>ic for the I/O Adapter and then click Next. The Select a Diskdialog appears.12. Select the option, Create a new virtual disk, and then click Next.
