Appendix A: Considerations for CA AuditUsersThis section contains the following topics:Understanding Differences in Architectures (see page 165)Configuring CA Adapters (see page 171)Sending CA Audit Events to CA Enterprise Log Manager (see page 175)When to Import Events (see page 179)Importing Data from a SEOSDATA Table (see page 181)Integrating with CA Audit r8 SP2 (see page 187)Understanding Differences in ArchitecturesIn planning how you to use CA Audit and CA Enterprise Log Manager together, you first should understand the differences in the architectures and the effectsthey have on your network structure.CA Enterprise Log Manager uses an embedded event log store, and provides anAgent Explorer to configure and manage agents. New technology coupled with acommon event grammar allows for faster event throughput to storage whilesupporting a higher number of event sources. The common event grammarallows CA Enterprise Log Manager to normalize events from many different eventsources into a single database schema.CA Enterprise Log Manager integrates at a certain level with CA Audit, but bydesign it is not completely interoperable. CA Enterprise Log Manager is a new andseparate server infrastructure that can run in parallel with CA Audit, with thefollowing event handling considerations:CA Enterprise Log Manager does...Receive event logs sent from CA Audit clients andiRecorders using configurable listeners.CA Enterprise Log Manager does not...Directly access event logs stored in the CA Auditcollector database.Provide a utility to import event log data stored inthe CA Audit collector database (SEOSDATAtable).Use agents to send event logs only to the CAEnterprise Log Manager server infrastructure.Permit CA Enterprise Log Manager agents and CAAudit clients with iRecorders to run on the samephysical host.Allow CA Enterprise Log Manager agents and CAAudit clients with iRecorders on the same host toaccess the same log sources simultaneously.Appendix A: Considerations for CA Audit Users 165
