Log Collection PlanningAbout the CA EEM ServerCA Enterprise Log Manager uses the CA Embedded Entitlements Manager (CAEEM) server internally to manage configurations, authorize and authenticateusers, coordinate subscription updates to content and binaries, and performother management functions. In the basic CA Enterprise Log Managerenvironment, you install CA EEM when you install the management CA EnterpriseLog Manager server. From there CA EEM manages the configurations of all of thecollection CA Enterprise Log Manager servers and their agents and connectors. You can also choose to install the CA EEM server on a remote server using thesupplied install packages on the Application installation disk, or you can use anexisting CA EEM server if you have one in use with other CA products. The CA EEM server offers its own web interface. However, almost all of yourconfiguration and maintenance activities take place within the CA Enterprise LogManager user interface. You should not normally need to interact directly withthe embedded CA EEM server functions except for failover configurations and thebackup and restore functions that are part of disaster recovery.Note: The CA Enterprise Log Manager server installation requires that you usethe password for the CA EEM default administration account, EiamAdmin, forproper registration of a CA Enterprise Log Manager server. When you install thefirst management CA Enterprise Log Manager server, you create this newpassword as part of the installation. When you install subsequent CA EnterpriseLog Manager servers using the same application instance name, youautomatically create a network environment in which you can later set upfederation relationships between the CA Enterprise Log Manager servers.Chapter 2: Planning Your Environment 27
