Subscription Update PlanningThe process represented by the numbered arrows follows:1. From a remote server with an Internet connection, you create a downloadpath for saving subscription update files. You access the RSS feed anddownload the content updates you require as well as product and operatingsystem updates. You manually create the required XML file describing thedownload.2. You copy everything in the download path of the remote server to thedownload path of the offline proxy. The scp (secure copy) utility is providedfor this purpose. You can also use sftp. The copied content includes contentupdates as well as the binary product and operating system updates. Aftercopying, change the ownership of the files to the caelmservice user.3. The offline subscription proxy server pushes content updates to therepository on the CA Enterprise Log Manager management server.4. Subscription clients poll the offline subscription proxy server. If new updatesare available, the subscription clients download them. The download is a zipfile containing product and operating system updates, a script to installthem, and a component information file (componentinfo.xml). If a backup isneeded, the subscription clients create a backup of the latest installation ofproduct updates and also create a script that can restore the state ofupdates, should you require a rollback of changes. (The backup does notinclude operating system updates.) Then, the subscription clients run theinstallation script that installs the product updates.Assess the Need for a Proxy ListBefore you configure subscription clients, determine the source from whichsubscription clients retrieve content updates. Subscription clients can getupdates directly from the default subscription proxy or you can configure anintermediate proxy list to off-load update requests.■For enterprises with only a few CA Enterprise Log Manager servers that are inclose network proximity, we recommend that subscription clients all use thedefault subscription proxy.50 Implementation Guide
