This is aperfect defense against social effects. Note that thiseffect works even against speech the Solar wouldbe wise to heed — trusted allies will have no moreluck than hated enemies in changing the character’sdecision. In addition, this effect cannot be endedearly — once active, it must remain in place for theremainder of the scene.SUBLIMINAL THOUGHT TECHNIQUECost: 10 motes, 1 WillpowerDuration: SpecialType: SimpleMinimum Linguistics: 5Minimum Essence: 4Prerequisite Charms: Unbreakable FascinationMethodWhile holding a normal conversation withsomeone, the Solar can introduce an almostunnoticeable suggestion — one that will lead thelistener towards the Exalt’s desired course of action.To use this Charm, the Exalt must converse withhis target for at least 5 minutes for each point ofPermanent Essence the latter has. During this time,the Solar inserts a subtle instruction into his speech,which takes the form of a command no longer thanthe character’s Permanent Essence in sentences. Hemust then roll his Wits + Linguistics + PermanentEssence in a contested roll against the target’sWillpower + Permanent Essence. On a failure, theCharm has no effect; on a botch, the target becomesaware of the Solar’s intentions. However, if theSolar achieves any net successes on the roll, thetarget internalizes the suggestion. For the durationof the effect, the target must always act to followthe suggestion whenever the opportunity presentsitself.Periodically, the target may roll Willpower againsta difficulty of the Solar’s Permanent Essence toshake off the effect. With one net success on theSolar’s roll, the victim may do so twice per day;each additional success by the Solar multiplies thetime needed between attempts by two.CROWD-SWAYING APPROACHCost: 20 motes, 1 WillpowerDuration: One dayType: SimpleMinimum Linguistics: 6Minimum Essence: 6Prerequisite Charms: Subliminal ThoughtTechniqueA masterful Solar orator need not use thewords she speaks to convince her audience; thoseshe does not can do so even more effectively. Whilespeaking to a crowd, the Solar inserts a singlecommand into her speech; those listening willnot consciously hear this command, but will bedeeply affected nonetheless. Each listener rolls hisWillpower, against a difficulty equal to the Solar’sPermanent Essence minus his own. Any who failthis roll are compelled for the remainder of the dayto carry out the Solar’s command, whenever theopportunity to do so presents itself. This Charmdoes not affect characters with a Permanent Essencegreater than that of the Exalt.RIDEPHILOSOPHYSolar Ride covers all aspects of horsemanship (andbeyond).
