Throughtheir performance, characters can evoke love, hate,or anything in between. Solar Performance Charmswork to maximize this power.Performance Charms at low levels tend to focus onthe mechanics of the performance itself — grantingdice bonuses or other improvements to the actual actof performing. As the Charms increase in Essence,however, they become capable of directly affectingthe emotions and thoughts of observers. As theirpower increases, they can inflict increasinglystronger emotions, or affect deeper parts of theobservers — their memories (as with MemoryReweaving Discipline) or their personalities, forexample.In keeping with the Solar thematics, there is asignificant subset of Performance Charms whichdeal specifically with inspiring heroism and leadingmilitarily. These effects grow out of Charms (likeHeroism-Encouraging Presence) which inspireemotions, but as they increase in Essence they candiverge more and more from the basic methodoloyof Performance. (Ideal Battle Knowledge Pranaexemplifies this.) Other Charms could also strayfrom strictly dealing with Performance if they fallinto this same category (or related areas, as withDragon-Soul Enlightening Method.)ABYSSAL EQUIVALENTSThe primary Abyssal Performance Charms whichdo not directly duplicate the effects of Solar Charmsare those which provide attacks — Withering Dirgeand its like. While it might be possible to justifysuch an effect for Solars, such effects would at bestbe tangential.
