One of the additional features that the IEEE 488.2 standard has over the IEEE 488.1standard is the definition of the exact messages which are sent by the controller, as wellas the ordering of those messages if more than one message is sent. IEEE 488.2 definesfifteen required control sequences and four optional control sequences as shown in Table8.1. These control sequences describe the exact state of the GPIB, how devices shouldrespond to specific messages, and the ordering of command messages for each of thedefined operations. ‘’ ‘’ ‘’ ’ ’ Table 8.1IEEE 488 2 required and optional control sequencesProtocols are high-level functions that combine a number of control sequences to performcommon test functions, thereby reducing test program development time.
