EN 463 Studies in Literature and Culture: 1900-Present
3 credits (AS)
Focusing on the concepts of modernism and postmodernism,
students read selected works of the 20th Century with an eye
toward what those works reveal about changing artistic
visions of the human condition. The course introduces
students to the important concepts of colonialism and postcolonialism
and to certain aspects of the culture wars,ǁ‖ such
as the question of canon formation. Students will read closely,
understand and apply a number of theoretical approaches to
interpretation—and interrogate the very notion of
interpretation. The course requires a number of seminar
papers and at least one larger, research-based project.
