Interior Design (Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Fine Arts)<br />
The award-wining Interior Design program prepares students for the challenges <strong>of</strong> this dynamic discipline. Our program integrates<br />
study <strong>of</strong> the functional, artistic and practical career components <strong>of</strong> the interior design pr<strong>of</strong>ession and is built on a foundation in the<br />
liberal arts.<br />
Goals:<br />
• Offer in-depth studio training in creative ideation, concept development, program analysis and space planning for a wide variety<br />
<strong>of</strong> interior environments;<br />
• Engage students in studio projects and lecture-based content areas including: universal design, building codes, materials &<br />
finishes applications, architectural history, as well as design practice specialties such as retail, commercial, hospitality, lighting,<br />
furniture, and residential design;<br />
• Develop students’ expertise in traditional media, such as sketching and rendering, as well as in current CAD, graphic, 3-D<br />
visualization programs and presentation methods; and<br />
• Prepare graduates with the educational background needed to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications<br />
(NCIDQ) certification exam, and other emerging pr<strong>of</strong>essional credentials.<br />
Special Features:<br />
Our classes are held in Reisman Hall, which features an innovative lighting lab, extensive materials library, and several state-<strong>of</strong>-the<br />
art computer studio labs.<br />
A mandatory internship provides students with hands-on experience in a pr<strong>of</strong>essional design environment, as well as an opportunity<br />
for networking. Academic experiences culminate with original Capstone research and design projects. Students are taught by an<br />
integrated faculty <strong>of</strong> master educators and working pr<strong>of</strong>essionals with affiliations in pr<strong>of</strong>essional organizations such as the American<br />
Society <strong>of</strong> Interior Designers (ASID), Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), and the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC).<br />
Faculty also hold distinguished credentials such as NCIDQ certificates, LEED-AP accreditations and New York State Certified<br />
Interior Designer licensure.<br />
