Human Services: Generalist (Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science)<br />
The Generalist concentration provides an overview <strong>of</strong> human services with the opportunity to learn in all three concentrations. The<br />
curriculum addresses issues related to mental health practice, the social services system and the criminal justice system. Students<br />
choose from a combination <strong>of</strong> courses within the Human Services curriculum providing the student with a base knowledge about<br />
the systems and services.<br />
Goals:<br />
• Provide students with an understanding <strong>of</strong> the human services system;<br />
• Develop basic counseling skills;<br />
• Develop an understanding <strong>of</strong> counseling theory and counseling approaches; and<br />
• Prepare students for pr<strong>of</strong>essional human services environments.<br />
Special Features:<br />
Two internships (160 hours each) in a human services setting are based on students’ interests, experience and academic preparation.<br />
Each student meets with the program director to discuss internship placements. The student is interviewed at the potential<br />
internship site before the final placement is determined.<br />
Program Requirements:<br />
• Students must earn a minimum grade <strong>of</strong> a "C" in each 100-200 level Human Services course;<br />
• Students must have earned at least 30 academic hours to be eligible for an internship;<br />
• Students must complete 12 credit hours in a human services internship placement; and<br />
• Students may repeat 100/200-level Human Services courses in which they first earned a grade less than "C" only once; students<br />
who cannot achieve a grade <strong>of</strong> "C" or above on the second attempt may not continue in the program.<br />
