FD 493 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Practices and Portfolio<br />
3 credits (CS)<br />
Students are exposed to the process <strong>of</strong> portfolio<br />
development, as required for the fashion industry. They will<br />
document their mastery <strong>of</strong> the knowledge and technical skills<br />
gained as fashion students through illustrations, photographs,<br />
and digital images and other material. They will develop the<br />
components <strong>of</strong> their portfolio along with the knowledge and<br />
skills necessary to begin a pr<strong>of</strong>essional job search, including<br />
resumes and other business documents, cover letters,<br />
interviews, and networking. A variety <strong>of</strong> sources used to<br />
locate jobs in the fashion industry will be investigated along<br />
with discussions <strong>of</strong> career paths open to graduates with<br />
fashion degrees. Prerequisites: FD 255 Digital Techniques in<br />
Fashion Illustration<br />
FD 498 Senior Project: Research and Development<br />
3 credits (CS)<br />
This course is the first <strong>of</strong> a two-class sequence that<br />
constitutes the Senior Capstone experience, an academic<br />
requirement for all students at Cazenovia College. The<br />
research paper and design line planning will allow the student<br />
to reflect upon the experiences gained in their academic<br />
career, demonstrate their mastery <strong>of</strong> the skills and knowledge<br />
they have acquired as fashion students while preparing for<br />
their future pr<strong>of</strong>ession. The focus <strong>of</strong> the class will be on the<br />
research methods and processes required for the<br />
development <strong>of</strong> a capstone research paper and project. The<br />
research process will include a study <strong>of</strong> research methods,<br />
concept proposal and definition, and a final written and<br />
documented research paper. Research will also be required<br />
for reflective and analytic papers, trend reporting/<br />
forecasting, and line development. Prerequisite: EN 201<br />
Academic Writing II<br />
FD 499 Senior Project: Apparel Collection<br />
3 credits (CS)<br />
This course is a continuation <strong>of</strong> the Senior Project: Research<br />
and Development course, in which students will create<br />
patterns, first samples, story boards; and conduct fittings and<br />
construct final garments for their senior collections. They will<br />
also plan and present lines as part <strong>of</strong> the annual student<br />
fashion show. Students will complete fashion collections <strong>of</strong><br />
garments and presentation pieces, related conceptually to<br />
their research papers that tie their academic experiences to<br />
future endeavors. During the last three weeks <strong>of</strong> the term,<br />
students will present oral defenses <strong>of</strong> both their written and<br />
creative work, discussing the relationship between these two<br />
aspects <strong>of</strong> their Senior Projects. Prerequisite: FD 498 Senior<br />
Project: Research and Development<br />
Health<br />
choking relief, CPR and first aid skills for adults, children and<br />
infants. The course also includes information on the<br />
prevention <strong>of</strong> injury and illness. American Red Cross<br />
certification in Community First Aid and Safety is awarded<br />
upon completion <strong>of</strong> the course. (Offered annually)<br />
Health Care Management<br />
HC 110 Introduction to Health Care Management<br />
3 credits (CS)<br />
This course is an introduction to health care and health<br />
promotion as a pr<strong>of</strong>ession and a career. Topics include<br />
competencies for health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, history <strong>of</strong> health care<br />
in the United States, health determinants, philosophical base<br />
<strong>of</strong> health, theories on behavioral and organizational changes,<br />
resources and pr<strong>of</strong>essional organizations. Emphasis on the<br />
process and practice <strong>of</strong> health care in society, the<br />
organization and the individual. Other topics will include<br />
practices in health care, hospital and medical staff<br />
organization, patient records, retention, budgeting, and thirdparty<br />
reimbursement.<br />
HC 210 Medical Terminology<br />
3 credits (CS)<br />
This course is focused on structure, meaning, and use <strong>of</strong><br />
medical terms with emphasis on those relating to disease, and<br />
operations performed on the human body. Study will cover<br />
integumentary, musculoskeletal, nervous, sensory, endocrine,<br />
cardiovascular, respiratory, reproductive, genitourinary,<br />
digestive, and pharmacology.<br />
HC 310 Legal Aspects <strong>of</strong> Health Care<br />
3 credits (CS)<br />
This course will include a study <strong>of</strong> accreditation and<br />
regulatory agencies for health care facilities, including the<br />
study <strong>of</strong> medical/legal aspects <strong>of</strong> medical records, the medical<br />
record as a legal document, confidential communication, the<br />
United States Court structure, and legal procedure and patient<br />
consents. Other topics will include the study and application<br />
<strong>of</strong> quality/utilization/risk management and physician<br />
credentialing.<br />
HC 320 Long-Term Health Care<br />
3 credits (CS)<br />
This course introduces and compares the major assessment<br />
and planning models used with the allied health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
Models discussed include precede/post/PATCH, a<br />
diagnostic approach to planning that will encompass social,<br />
epidemiological, behavioral, educational, administrative<br />
diagnoses, and evaluation will be stressed. Other topics<br />
include cost/benefit in relation to worksite health promotion,<br />
wellness models, health risk appraisals, fitness testing and<br />
diversity.<br />

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills 3 credits (CS)<br />
needed to recognize emergencies, make decisions regarding This course is focused on topics related to current issues and<br />
care, and carry out appropriate first aid until pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
research as related to the health care pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Emphasis is<br />
medical help arrives. Students practice rescue breathing,<br />
