Study Abroad/International Study Opportunities<br />
Cazenovia College invites students to expand their college experience by <strong>of</strong>fering opportunities for international study.<br />
Currently, the College <strong>of</strong>fers study abroad programs in Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Ireland, and Spain. These programs<br />
range in duration from eight days to an entire semester.<br />
Canterbury, England<br />
Cazenovia College takes students to Canterbury, England for a semester-long study abroad program at Canterbury Christ<br />
Church University (CCCU) during the fall semester. Students register for five CCCU classes (3 credits each) and a weekly seminar (1<br />
credit hour) convened by the accompanying Cazenovia College faculty member, for a total <strong>of</strong> 16 credit hours. All students take a<br />
course on Modern Britain, and have a choice between either British History or British Literature. The remaining three courses can<br />
be chosen from a broad range <strong>of</strong> options, including Business, American Studies, History, Politics, Archaeology, English, Film and<br />
Media, Religious Studies and Social Science.<br />
This international study experience is recommended for students during the fall semester <strong>of</strong> their junior years. Students remain<br />
registered Cazenovia College students during their semester in Canterbury. All courses taken during this program fulfill major<br />
requirements, General Education requirements or electives toward the bachelor’s degree. All financial aid and scholarships remain<br />
in place.<br />
Galway, Ireland<br />
In May-June 2012, Cazenovia College students participated in a 2-week, 3-credit hour program in Ireland. While this program<br />
took place primarily in Galway, on the west coast, students started their trip in Dublin City, where they stayed at Trinity College<br />
Dublin (TCD). While in Dublin, the Cazenovia College group saw the Book <strong>of</strong> Kells, the National Museum <strong>of</strong> Ireland, and<br />
Kilmainham Gaol. From Dublin, the students traveled to Galway where they explored the city itself, as well as other parts <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Connemara region. They also visited the Aran Islands, the Burren and the Cliffs <strong>of</strong> Moher.<br />
This Summer Program in Ireland brought together a mix <strong>of</strong> medieval tradition and rich modern culture that provided an<br />
endless source <strong>of</strong> material for the communications projects students worked on during this course. Credits earned during this<br />
program fulfill Arts & Sciences electives or Open Electives in every major.<br />
The next study abroad program in Ireland will be <strong>of</strong>fered in May-June <strong>of</strong> 2014 or 2015.<br />
Madrid, Spain<br />
This Cazenovia College/Madrid Program is organized in coordination with Suffolk University and is <strong>of</strong>fered during Summer<br />
Session I, 2013. Students participating in the Madrid study abroad program take classes at Suffolk University's Madrid campus.<br />
Students choose two, 3 or 4-credit hour classes from a diverse list <strong>of</strong> courses, which cover issue-areas such as Business, Art and<br />
Design, Psychology, and Science and are conducted in English. For those students who would like to take classes conducted in<br />
Spanish, there are Spanish Language and Literature courses <strong>of</strong>fered as well.<br />
Courses taken during this program fulfill major course requirements, General Education requirements or electives.<br />
Monteverde, Costa Rica<br />
In January 2014, Cazenovia College will take students to Costa Rica to participate in a program organized in coordination with<br />
Monteverde Institute, located in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. During this 12-day, 4-credit hour course, students will study<br />
the conservation and sustainability <strong>of</strong> the rain forest environment, and its inhabitants. Students will have the opportunity to conduct<br />
research that involves reforestation and stream sampling fieldwork, and other activities involving birds, tropical biology, and animal<br />
behavior.<br />
Courses taken during this program fulfill the Scientific Literacy General Education competency requirements.<br />
London-Paris<br />
An eight-day trip to London and Paris is part <strong>of</strong> the coursework for “Fashioning Texts: Dress Culture in Literature and Film.”<br />
Throughout the semester-long, 3-credit hour course, students will study fashion and dress culture as they appear in literature, film,<br />
fashion photographs, and pop culture.<br />
During spring break, students and teachers will extend their classroom for eight days to London and Paris to practice their<br />
abilities to ‘read’ the city environment. Students will read and interpret the messages sent out by shops, streets, markets, people and<br />
the city environment as a whole.<br />
This course fulfills major course requirements for Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising, as well as General Education<br />
requirements or electives, for all baccalaureate majors.<br />
