A LUXURIOUS TREAT APPEALING TO THE EYE AND THE APPETITE<br />
SUR BALIK ARNAVUTKÖY<br />
A Dorak Holding establishment; Sur Balık, was opened 15 years ago<br />
in, Istanbul Sarayburnu. It was named after the location itself, sur,<br />
‘the walls’ it was built within. After 10 years, the owners decided to<br />
add a second restaurant to the chain in Arnavutköy. As the search of<br />
a location suitable for the resaturant’s identity began, they found the<br />
200 year-old building it currently operates in. The building itself, was<br />
renovated in accordance with the original one and Sur Balık started<br />
its operation five and a half years ago, with all its magnificent<br />
delicacies of seafood here.<br />
The moment you step in Sur Balık, you feel the sense of a nostalgic<br />
ambiance. It is located in the very heart of the ideal view of the<br />
Bosphorus, therefore first appeals to the eye before the appetite.<br />
A staff of 17 work in the kitchen of this restaurant, cooking delicious<br />
dishes of fish and seafood, from deep-fried to grilled or steamed, all<br />
performed by separate masters. The main goal here is to standardize<br />
the taste, each time. As you arrive at Sur Balık, the most difficult task<br />
for you would be to choose your table. Whether you’d rather a place<br />
by the sea downstairs, or upstairs with a direct view of the Bosphorus,<br />
maybe even a romantic atmosphere at a table directly parallel to<br />
the sea, it’s all up to you. As you sit at a table of your choosing and<br />
the specials you;’ve ordered arrive before you know it, time flies by<br />
with the exquisite visual pleasure of Bosphorus you’re about to enjoy.<br />
Thereafter, you find yourself indulged in a luxurious experience.<br />
The menu at Sur Balık predominantly consists of sea food, on the<br />
other hand you may choose fromn a variety of meat dishes if you<br />
don’t prefer anything that comes out of the sea. It’s impossible to<br />
leave this restaurant with an empty stomach. All the sea food in the<br />
menu are freshly chosen according to their season, nothing comes<br />
frozen out of the cold room. The main point of competition for sea<br />
food restaurants is the similiarity in their menus. Sur Balık, however,<br />
is always after improvement and change in the menu, that’s why<br />
besides classics like lakerda, mackerel and mashed roe, you may<br />
find new specialties of caviar, fish egg, stonecrop, cibes, spinach<br />
beet rolls, completely different than the rest. Amongst the most<br />
outstanding entrees are; prawns rolled in shredded pastry, mussles<br />
in wine, shrimps in milk, paella, roasted monk fish and blinis with<br />
caviar. We tried out the grouper wrapped in cooking paper, yet<br />
it it would be possible to find sea breem, turbot, red gurnard,<br />
swordfish, lipsos or monk fish based on the season. Companies can<br />
host corporate dinners at Sur Balık, and for those who wish to hire<br />
a whole floor for the evening may do so. In addition, it is highly<br />
recommended to maket he best out of this exclusive place with<br />
your beloved, in the most romantic atmosphere accompanied by a<br />
menu of utmost delicacies.<br />
