Echinopsis
The genus Echinopsis is native to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay. They are characterized
by globular stems and a wide array of spectacular flowers. They are also among
the easiest of cacti to grow and care for as houseplants. They produce hairy buds that soon
burst into flowers in a wide range of colors including pinks, deep reds, magentas, white,
and oranges (Figure 14–19). Flowers often exude a sweet scent that comes out in the night.
For optimum flowering, the plant should be kept dry during the cool season.
