Ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά
meeting points του
περασμένου αιώνα στη
Σαντορίνη ήταν η πλατεία του
Ψηλού Καφενέ, που βρίσκεται
στην εκκλησία του αγίου
Νικολάου, στην είσοδο του
καστελιού. Εδώ λειτουργούσε
καφέ όπου συγκεντρώνονταν
για να συζητήσουν οι κάτοικοι
του νησιού. Στην κεντρική
πλατεία τώρα λειτουργεί
γραφείο πληροφοριών.
One of the most important
meeting points of the last
century in Santorini was the
Square of Psilos Kafenes,
located in front of the church
of Aghios Nikolaos at the
entrance of the casteli. At
this point there used to be a
cafe where the locals would
regularly meet. Today, there is
an information desk here.

HIKING TRAILS
Από τον Πύργο ξεκινούν
μερικές από τις πιο
ενδιαφέρουσες διαδρομές.
Από εδώ μπορείτε να
ξεκινήσετε για την Έξω
Γωνιά ή στην αντίθετη
κατεύθυνση προς
το Εμπορείο και το
Μεγαλοχώρι. Από εδώ
μπορείτε να ανέβετε στο
μοναστήρι του προφήτη
Ηλία. Πιο ήρεμη διαδρομή
είναι να έρθετε στον
Πύργο από το οινοποιείο
SantoWines.
From Pyrgos start some
of the most interesting
pathways. From here you can
head for Exo Gonia or in the
opposite direction towards
Emporeio and Megalohori.
Also you can go up to the
Monastery of Prophet Elias.
A more tranquil and relaxing
route is to head for Pyrgos
from SantoWines Winery.

ARCHITECTURE AND MANSIONS
Στον Πύργο συναντάμε αρκετά αρχοντικά του 19ου αιώνα, όπως
το επιβλητικό Zannos Melathron, το Donna’s House και το Villa
Ioulia. Η βασική αρχιτεκτονική υπακούει στους κανόνες της
μεσαιωνικής οχυρωματικής. Στον Πύργο υπάρχουν επίσης πολλές
κάναβες.
In Pyrgos there are several 19th-century mansions, such as
imposing Zannos Melathron, Donna’s House and Villa Ioulia. The
architecture follows the rules of medieval fortification. There are
also many traditional wine cellars in Pyrgos.

Εδώ λαμβάνει χώρα μια από τις πιο εντυπωσιακές ακολουθίες
του Επιταφίου σε όλη την Ελλάδα. Φλεγόμενα τενεκεδάκια σε
κάθε στέγη και περίφραξη καθώς και στα ερείπια του καστελιού
δημιουργούν μια κατανυκτική ατμόσφαιρα που αξίζει να ζήσετε
από κοντά.
It is here where one of the most impressive Epitaph processions all
over Greece takes place. Burning cans on every roof and fence,
as well as in the casteli ruins, create an awesome atmosphere that
is well-worth experiencing.

Και όμως ο Πύργος
αποτελεί μια από τις
γαστρονομικές περιοχές
με το ιστορικό Selene και
το Selene Meze & Wine.
Στην πλατεία θα βρείτε το
Καντούνι και το Brusco,
λίγα βήματα παραπάνω το
Cava Alta, ενώ στην κορυφή
του καστελιού το Botargo
και το κλασικό Franco’s.
Στην είσοδο του χωριού
άνοιξε το εστιατόριο
Anemos, ενώ εκεί θα βρείτε
και το Agaze.
Pyrgos is one of the main
gastronomic areas of the
island with historical
restaurants Selene and
Selene Meze & Wine. On
the traditional square you
will find Kantouni and
Brusco, a few steps further
Cava Alta, while at the
top of the casteli there
are Botargo and classic
Franco’s. Brand
new restaurant Anemos
is at the entrance of the
village where Agaze is
also located.
