Pyrgos casteli
Tο νεότερο καστέλι της
Σαντορίνης χτίστηκε γύρω
στο 1580 και έχει κρατήσει
την ατμόσφαιρα της εποχής
εκείνης. Στην κορυφή του
δέσποζε αρχικά πύργος
που γκρεμίστηκε για να
χτιστεί η μονή του αγίου
Γεωργίου. Οι τοίχοι των
σπιτιών αποτελούσαν και τον
οχυρωματικό περίβολο του
καστελιού, ενώ υπήρχε μόνο
μία είσοδος. Το καστέλι του
Πύργου γίνεται η πρωτεύουσα
του νησιού μετά την
εγκατάλειψη του Σκάρου και
σήμερα η βόλτα στα δρομάκια
του, η στάση στις εκκλησιές
και η θέα σε ολόκληρο το
νησί είναι μοναδική εμπειρία.
Being the most recent of all
castelia in Santorini, it was
built around 1580 has retained
the mystic atmosphere
of its era. In the beginning, at
its top there was a tower that
was later knocked down and
the Monastery of St Georgios
was built in its place. The
walls of the houses composed
the fortified surrounding wall
of the casteli, while there
was only one entrance. Once
Skaros was abandoned, the
casteli of Pyrgos became the
capital of the island. Walking
around its alleys, stopping
by its churches and admiring
the spectacular view over the
whole island is an experience
that no visitor of Santorini
should miss!

Akrotiri casteli
and gulas
Χτίστηκε γύρω στο 1335 και
λεγόταν καστέλι Πούντα
και La Ponta, που στα
μεσαιωνικά ιταλικά σημαίνει
κορυφή. Παραχωρήθηκε
στην οικογένεια των
Γκοζαντίνι, που κράτησαν
τον γουλά υπό την κυριαρχία
τους ως το 1617 ενώ οι
Τούρκοι είχαν καταλάβει το
υπόλοιπο νησί.
It was built around 1335
and used to be called ‘Punta
casteli’ and ‘La Ponta’, which
in Medieval Italian meant
‘the peak’. It was donated by
N. Sanudos, Duke of Naxos,
to the Gozadini family,
who kept the gulas under
their power until 1617 even
though the Turks had
already invaded the rest
of the island.
