“de la” or “del”, official title. Date of publication is optional <strong>and</strong> is often included in a footnote.<br />

Artículo 14 del Código Civil Federal.<br />

Cite statutes, codes, laws, <strong>and</strong> regulations no longer in force by official title <strong>and</strong> indication of<br />

subsequent legislative his<strong>to</strong>ry (abrogated, modified, derogated, etc.):<br />

Ley Federal de la Reforma Agraria, derogada por la Ley Agraria.<br />

Statutes, codes, laws, <strong>and</strong> regulations can also be cited <strong>to</strong> include the year when they became effective<br />

law. Cite by official title, “vigente desde” (meaning “effective since”), <strong>and</strong> the applicable year:<br />

Ley General de Asentamien<strong>to</strong>s Humanos, vigente desde 1976.<br />

Names of Codes <strong>and</strong> Statutes can be abbreviated. However, it is not recommended <strong>to</strong> do so.<br />
