2.3 Document Symbols<br />

All UN documents are cited by a series of symbols (numbers <strong>and</strong> letters) separated by slashes<br />

which uniquely identify the document. The order of the symbols designates the source of the<br />

document with increasing specificity.<br />

The general order of symbols is: parent organ (or special body), subsidiary body, type of<br />

document, <strong>and</strong> any modification(s) <strong>to</strong> the document.<br />

Further information on Document Symbols beyond the scope of this manual is provided in Part<br />

III below.<br />
