Zanzibar has a separate judicial system, which includes a High Court, Kadhis Courts, and
Magistrates Courts. Decisions of the Zanzibar High Court can be appealed to the Court of
Appeals, except for those involving issues of constitutional or Islamic law. Islamic courts also
operate in Zanzibar and have jurisdiction over cases involving Muslim residents in the areas of
marriage, divorce, and inheritance.
