II. CITATION GUIDE<br />

Abkürzungs- und Zitierregeln der österreichischen Rechtssprache und europarechtlicher<br />

Rechtsquellen (AZR) [Abbreviation <strong>and</strong> citation rules of Austrian legal terminology <strong>and</strong><br />

European sources of law] (Gerhard Friedl et al. eds. 1996), a widely recognized st<strong>and</strong>ard system<br />

of citation elaborated <strong>and</strong> compiled on behalf of the Austrian Law Congress (Österreichischer<br />

Juristentag), can be considered semi-official.<br />

Nevertheless, the st<strong>and</strong>ardized form is rarely used in practice. Thus, while the st<strong>and</strong>ardized form<br />

calls for full source names <strong>and</strong> English abbreviations (if appropriate), the use of abbreviated<br />

source names <strong>and</strong> German abbreviations remains common.<br />

1.0 Constitution<br />

Cite the Constitution by subdivision(s) referenced (“Art.”, “Abs.”, etc.) followed by the<br />

Constitution’s abbreviation (“B-VG”):<br />

1.1 State Constitution<br />

Use the same format as used with the federal Constitution, substituting the name “L<strong>and</strong>es-<br />

Verfassungsgesetz” or the abbreviation “L-VG” of the state constitutions <strong>and</strong> including the name<br />

of the state in the citation.<br />

2.1 Regulations <strong>and</strong> Statutes<br />

Cite regulations <strong>and</strong> statutes by subdivision(s) referenced followed by an abbreviation of the<br />
