II. CITATION GUIDE<br />

There is no uniform code of citation in Taiwan. The following represents an English<br />

transliteration of citation forms commonly used in textbooks <strong>and</strong> scholarly works.<br />

0.1 A Note on Transliteration<br />

In Taiwan several Romanization systems are used concurrently by different levels of government,<br />

<strong>and</strong> within some levels of government, different systems are used for different purposes. This<br />

<strong>Guide</strong> primarily uses the traditional Wade-Giles system.<br />

0.2 A Note on Dates<br />

Dates are often cited using the Roman calendar along with the Min Gou calendar year in the<br />

following format: “Min Guo” (sometimes spelled “Min Kuo”), [year], “nien” (meaning “year”),<br />

[month], [day]. Reference may also be made <strong>to</strong> the year under the Roman calendar after the date<br />

or the citation (in square brackets).<br />

Cite the Constitution (Chung Hua Min Guo Hsien Fa, Min Guo 36 nien, December 25 (R.O.C.<br />

Constitution, December 25, 1947)) by abbreviated title (“Hsien Fa”), article, <strong>and</strong> section or<br />
