Gill Clarke (*1954)<br />

studied English and Education at York University before becoming an independent dance artist, performer, teacher,<br />

advocate, and movement researcher—and recently received an MA in Social Sciences. She was a founder–member<br />

of the Siobhan Davies <strong>Dance</strong> Company and has performed and collaborated with many other choreographers, including<br />

Rosemary Butcher, Rosemary Lee, and Janet Smith. She teaches masterclasses and workshops internationally<br />

for students, independent artists, and professional companies. She was director of performance studies at LABAN,<br />

London 2000–2006 (where she is now a consultant), received a fellowship from NESTA, a London <strong>Dance</strong> and<br />

Performance Award, an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), is a visiting professor at Ulster University,<br />

and co-director of Independent <strong>Dance</strong>—an organization supporting professional dance artists in London.
