• Individuals working inside a firm has to identify in detail the main activity'of the<br />

fll111 regardless the nature of his job or profession, for example the physician<br />

working in a spinning and weaving factory his economic activity is "spinning and<br />

weaving" .<br />

• Individuals working outside firms, his economic activity is derived from the work<br />

he is carrying out, for example the wandering vegetables seller his economic<br />

activity is "retail selling of vegetables", and the farmer and the agricultural<br />

laborer their economic activity is "agriculture".<br />

11. Consumption and expenses of goods and services<br />

Consumption means the quantity and value of actual household consumption during the<br />

survey period either goods are homemade (from its farm or factory) or a non-householdproduction<br />

(either it is purchased or given as a gift, grant and in-kind benefit).<br />

Quantities consumed exclude goods exchanged against other commodities, gifts, grants<br />

or compensations, such as in-kind wages to agricultural laborers, given by the household.<br />

Also, quantities used for production purposes such as seeds or agricultural food sold by<br />

the household to third parties are not included.<br />

Service expenses means payments paid, in cash or in-kind, by the household on services<br />

provided during the survey period. This does not include the value of free services<br />

rendered to the household during the survey period.<br />

12. Transfer payments<br />

<strong>The</strong> value of expenses supported by the household for non-living household me<strong>mb</strong>ers<br />

either (relatives or not) such as bridal money, trousseau, wedding present, donations,<br />

charity, alms and alimony, cash or in-kind transfers from the household to third parties<br />

either inside or outside Egypt.<br />
