Quale energia?
What kind of energy?
Tendenza ribassista su tutti i
mercati energetici a fine 2023.
Il conflitto in Medio Oriente non
fa più paura?
Downward trend on all energy
markets at the end of 2023. Is
the conflict in the Middle East
no longer a worry?
finiscono l’anno in rialzo.
dell’economia.
La tendenza ribassista è supportata anche dai
seguenti fattori:
• le alte temperature per il periodo;
ripreso a scendere, nonostante l’approssimarsi
periodo, hanno contenuto la domanda di gas;
• l’aumento delle produzioni rinnovabili ha limitato
l’uso di gas per il termoelettrico;
livelli del 2014, a circa 60 miliardi di smc;
• un livello record di riempimento degli stoccaggi,
vicinissimo al 100%;
The last period of 2023 (W44 to W52) was
characterised by falling gas, electricity and oil
prices, whereas CO 2
prices ended the year on
the rise.
Most analysts claim that the conflict in the Middle
East is no longer a concern and therefore
markets are more confident in the stability of
the economy.
The bearish trend is also supported by the following
factors:
• high temperatures for the period;
• fall in demand, indicating a recession.
In the gas market, after the initial tensions related
to the conflict in the Middle East had dissipated,
prices started to fall again, despite the
approaching winter.
Here are the main reasons for this scenario:
• Mild temperatures, often above average for
the period, kept gas demand down;
• the increase in renewable production has limited
the use of gas for thermoelectricity;
• industrial gas demand remained weak: Italian
gas consumption returned to 2014 levels, at
around 60 billion smc;
• a record level of stockpiling, bordering on
100%;
• a substantial amount of gas available for purchase,
both by pipeline and by ship.
The average weekly value of the VTP D-A for
2023 was €42.27/MWh, down 65.5% on the
same period in 2022, which was €122.44/MWh.
The horizontal line indicates the value of the
52-week average for 2022 as €122.44/MWh
(Fig. 1).
