Biserka Cvjetièanin is Senior Researcher (Scientific Advisor) at the Department for<br />
Culture <strong>and</strong> Communication, Institute for International Relations (IMO), Zagreb,<br />
Croatia, <strong>and</strong> former Deputy Minister of Culture (2000-2004). She is Director of the<br />
Network of Networks for Research <strong>and</strong> Cooperation in Cultural Development -<br />
Culturelink, established in 1989 by UNESCO <strong>and</strong> the Council of Europe. Biserka<br />
Cvjetièanin holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Zagreb,<br />
Croatia. Her research areas include cultural development, cultural policies, cultural<br />
diversity <strong>and</strong> intercultural communication. She is the author <strong>and</strong> editor of numerous<br />
books, studies <strong>and</strong> articles. Biserka Cvjetièanin delivers lectures at postgraduate<br />
courses of universities <strong>and</strong> institutes abroad. She is the 1989 winner of the University<br />
of Zagreb award for scientific research, <strong>and</strong> was awarded the French Légion<br />
d’Honneur in 2003.<br />

Vesna Èopiè holds a Ph.D. in the field of social sciences from the University of<br />
Ljubljana, Slovenia. Between 1991 <strong>and</strong> 1997 she was involved in the evaluation of<br />
Slovenian cultural policy <strong>and</strong> authored <strong>and</strong> co-authored numerous publications from<br />
this field (Elements for the Shaping of the National Cultural Policy, Cultural Policy<br />
in Slovenia etc.). Throughout the 1990s she prepared the legislation in the sphere of<br />
culture for the Slovenian Ministry of Culture. She participated as an expert in various<br />
programmes of the Council of Europe, in EU research projects <strong>and</strong> ECF activities.<br />
Her principal interests are legislation, public governance <strong>and</strong> cultural policy. She<br />
lectures on cultural policy <strong>and</strong> cultural management at the Faculty for Social<br />
Sciences, University of Ljubljana, <strong>and</strong> publishes in scientific journals at home <strong>and</strong><br />
abroad.<br />
