Stage 2: Computational simulation of response of bridge systems, including documentation of the progression of damage in the bridge; required seat widths; anticipated peak forces in the substructure; and evaluation of changes in stiffness or strength during the seismic event. Stage 3: Refinement of strength reduction factors and R-factors used for design of typical Illinois bridges and development of a simplified approach for pushover analysis. The original batch of planned bearing tests (prior to the project's expansion / extension) were finished during this quarter, and most of the materials had been procured / fabricated for the additional test specimens (beyond those in the original project scope). A final batch of supplemental systems analyses were also conducted during this quarter. And finally, a draft outline for the project's final report was developed and passed along to the TRP Co-Chairs, for their feedback & approval. Anticipated Work Next Quarter: TRP Meeting #13 is in May of 2012. A draft of the key analytical modeling sections for the final project report will be provided to the TRP for their consideration shortly after that meeting. Experiments will be conducted on the additional test specimens (beyond those in the original project scope) through this quarter as well, with the corresponding experimentally-related sections of the draft final project report being finalized as those extra tests are completed.
