Progress & Significant Results This Quarter:
Task 2. Literature Review
A draft of the literature review document is being prepared. The research team will finalize the draft and will submit it to the TRP for review. There
were additional publications from the TRB meeting that were reviewed and incorporated into the literature review document.
Task 3. Survey of Driver Understanding of FYA
Phase two of the survey dissemination began in January 2012. The research team asked the City of East Peoria, the Washington Chamber of
Commerce, and neighborhood association presidents to distribute the survey link to area residents. 236 responses have been received as of April 16,
2012 and phase two of the survey was closed.
Task 5. Collect and Analyze Operational and Traffic Conflict Data
Traffic volumes, gap data, conflict data, and red and yellow light running data has been extracted from all of the before and after period videos.
Analysis and statistical testing is almost complete for all MOEâ€s.
Task 6. Collect and Analyze Traffic Crash Data
All crash data is analyzed through October 2011 for the FYA test sites. Currently, the research team has a minimum of three months of after crash
data at all 86 applicable sites. At these sites, the days of after crash data analyzed range from 94 days to 388 days. The preliminary crash data shows
a reduction in total crashes, left-turn related crashes, LTHO crashes, and injury crashes for the by FYA approach analysis for all 164 approaches. It
should be noted that statistical testing on these crash frequencies has yet to be performed.
A before and after with control site comparison is underway with the 52 total pairs of test and control sites. Statistical testing will also begin once
more data has been analyzed.
Task 7. <strong>Quarterly</strong> and Mid-Project Meeting
The next progress meeting is scheduled for April 26, 2012.
Task 8. Conduct Statistical Analyses
Statistical testing on gap data, YLR, RLR, traffic conflict data, and crashes is currently being conducted.
Anticipated Work Next Quarter:
Task 2. Literature Review
The research team will present the highlights of the literature review to the TRP at the meeting in April.
Task 3. Survey of Driver Understanding of FYA
The results of Phase I and Phase II survey results will be documented and presented to the TRP.
Task 5. Collect and Analyze Operational and Traffic Conflict Data
Summaries of each measure of effectiveness (MOE) will be prepared. Statistical analysis of the operational data is expected to be completed in the
next quarter.
Task 6. Collect and Analyze Traffic Crash Data
The research team will continue to update the results of the before and after study once additional data becomes available.
A before and after with control site comparison has also begun with the 52 total pairs of test and control sites. Statistical testing will also begin once
more data has been analyzed. Analyses for the Empirical Bayes method will also be started in the next quarter.
