Project Descripti<strong>on</strong>:<br />

ARA will perform research designed to understand how drivers perceive, interpret, and react to warning lights in work z<strong>on</strong>es. This will include a<br />

field program of observing and recording driver behavior around actual work z<strong>on</strong>e setups, as well as focus groups to gather insight into driver<br />

interpretati<strong>on</strong>s of work z<strong>on</strong>e setups. From the data gathered during observati<strong>on</strong>s and focus groups, ARA will c<strong>on</strong>duct a field experiment where we<br />

manipulate various work z<strong>on</strong>e setups and observe changes in driver behavior. Finally, we will draft and submit specific recommendati<strong>on</strong>s based <strong>on</strong><br />

these findings for incorporati<strong>on</strong> into traffic c<strong>on</strong>trol standards.<br />
