Descriptive analysis of the UTRACS data was completed. This provided a better understanding of seniors' activity generation, planning and
scheduling behavior compared to younger adults.
Task 3: Describing Seniors†Activity-Travel Planning Behavior
Seniors participate in a diverse set of activities including work, personal, religious, healthcare, services, errands, discretionary, and shopping. Our
analysis showed that more than thirty percent of seniors†out-of-home activities are related to shopping. We have developed a hazard-based
duration model that replicates seniors†inter-shopping duration.
Task 4: Tour Formation Model
UTRACS data was processed for map-matching. In this analysis, we have allocated GPS traces to actual street network. The analysis allows us to
observe individuals' tours that will be used to develop tour formation models.
Task 5: Mode Choice Model
A preliminary mode choice model was developed using UTRACS dataset, however the results were not satisfactory due to small sample size of the
dataset. It appears that we do not have enough number of observations of alternative travel modes (other than auto mode). We are considering other
data sources (e.g., CMAP's travel tracker data) for this analysis.
Task 6: GIS Analysis
As noted above (Task 4) a map matching algorithm was developed and used to allocate GPS data records to highway network. All other locations
are also geo-coded.
Task 7: Dissemination of Findings
We finished the manuscript on inter-shopping duration analysis and will be sednding it to Transportmetrica journal. We will also present two papers
in July in the International Conference on Aging, Mobility and Quality of Life (AMQoL) in An Arbor, MI.
Anticipated Work Next Quarter:
We will finalize task 3 and will continue working on Task 4 and 5.
