Testing protocol and product evaluation for ditch checks: Tested 3D Disto for use in quantifying channel topographical changes upstream and downstream of ditch checks during product evaluation. 2. Testing protocol for inlet protection: Began literature review and design of testing protocol for three types of inlets: ditch, flared-end, and curb. Acquired currently used BMP protection products for all three types of inlets to use in benchmark evaluation. Anticipated Work Next Quarter: 1. Testing protocol and product evaluation for ditch checks: Implement selected testing protocol for ditch checks and benchmark current products used for IDOT projects. 2. Testing protocol for inlet protection: Complete literature review and evaluation protocol for three inlet types and submit to TRP for review and approval. This means we can expect both higher visitation numbers and increased annual energy bills for these sites. Any preventative measures, especially in the area of "Green Friendly" techniques, that will save money and at the same time show our commitment by the State to be more environmentally conscious would be very beneficial and well received. The research tasks of this project would allow us to study six rest areas that have the highest energy bills and determine what modifications could be made from the simple to the complex for generating energy savings (dollars) while being "Green Friendly" (environmentally aware). When added to the fact that this would take place at state facilities that are now experiencing nearly 40 million visitors a year, this would go a long way to improve the fiscal and environmental image of Illinois on both a state and national level.
