Glass manufactured in India is supplied to the Indian Market. The domestic dem<strong>and</strong> has been on<br />

a continuous rise with the Infrastructure sector in the country has been seeing stupendous<br />

growth.<br />

Float Glass is dem<strong>and</strong> is usually divided into Automotive <strong>and</strong> Non- Automotive Consumers. In<br />

the Financial Year 2004 -2005 Non Automotive consumers (Tonnage wise) account for 93% <strong>of</strong><br />

the Dem<strong>and</strong> Drivers for Float <strong>glass</strong> in India.<br />

Dem<strong>and</strong> is Domestic Dem<strong>and</strong> = Architectural Dem<strong>and</strong> + Automotive Dem<strong>and</strong><br />

1. Real Estate Sector<br />

The real estate story in India is growing bigger by the day. Industry experts believe that<br />

Indian real estate has huge dem<strong>and</strong> potential in almost every sector -- especially<br />

commercial, residential <strong>and</strong> retail. Real Estate Industry in India is estimated to be about<br />

$1,200 Crs (2004) <strong>and</strong> is growing at the pace <strong>of</strong> 30% each year.<br />

(a) Residential<br />

The growth in the residential sector in India has been driven mainly by rising disposable<br />

income, a rapidly growing middle class, <strong>and</strong> affordable interest rates, fiscal incentives on<br />

both interest <strong>and</strong> principal payments for housing loans, as well as increased urbanization<br />

<strong>and</strong> increase in nuclear families. The conversion <strong>of</strong> slum, kutcha or semi-pucca in urban<br />

areas to pucca non-slums dwelling units has also contributed to residential growth. There is<br />

a housing shortage <strong>of</strong> 19.4 million units with a shortage <strong>of</strong> 12.7 million in rural areas <strong>and</strong><br />

6.7 million in urban areas as <strong>of</strong> March 2006.<br />
