120 SUBASTA DE ARTE Y JOYAS 401 FRANCESCO DA PONTE (BASSANO) (Bassano del Grappa, Vizenza, 1549-Venecia, 1592) El anuncio a los pastores óleo sobre lienzo 124 x 189 cm Se trata de una obra de alto nivel artístico e indudable interés de la cual se conservan numerosas versiones, entre las que destaca una repetición de similar calidad que se encuentra en Wawell, Cracovia (Arslan, Eduardo, “Il Bassano”, tomo II, lám. 232). Muestra con toda claridad el estilo de Francesco da Ponte, “Il Bassano”, sobresaliente miembro de la familia de los Bassano, famoso taller de prolífica producción pictórica que se repartió por toda Italia y Europa occidental, cuya cabeza visible fue Jacopo, el padre. Este tema del Anuncio a los pastores fue plasmado precisamente por Jacopo y también por Leandro, otro de sus hijos, pues hubo de ser muy aclamado a juzgar por el número de réplicas existentes. La composición se resuelve mediante una iluminación de fuertes contrastes, propia de la escuela veneciana de la segunda mitad del siglo XVI a la que pertenece, representando de este modo el carácter nocturno de la escena que se narra. Así, en medio de un ambiente en el que reina una gran oscuridad, aparece un ángel en el cielo que anuncia el nacimiento del Niño. Potentes resplandores alumbran los populares rostros de los pastores, entre los que se describen personajes tanto maduros como jóvenes y niños mezclados con su ganado, rebaños de ovejas y cabras, sobre un fondo de naturaleza en penumbra. El artista representa con admirable naturalismo las expresiones sorprendidas de las figuras, sus vestuarios, el pelaje del ganado y los distintos aperos propios de la vida pastoril.
