Matías trabajadesde diciembre de 2009 en la sede que el portal decomercio electrónico Mercado Libre tiene en el PILP,desarrollando en lenguaje Java. Desde entonces dejósu hogar en las residencia y vive en San Luis.Después de haber realizado su primera práctica decuatro meses, Matías escuchó dos propuestas laborales:una de Mercado Libre y otra de una compañíade origen español instalada en San Luis. Y firmó parala empresa que es referente en materia de comercioelectrónico en el país y en la región. “Por ahora quieroquedarme en Mercado Libre porque hay mucho paracrecer, especialmente en Java que es a lo que me dedico”,confía. Por el perfil laboral que va delineando,comienzan a aparecer en el horizonte muchas alternativasprofesionales. “Creo que Mercado Libre tieneun buen plan de carrera, sueldo, trabajar es agradable.No sé si me iría a otro lugar. Antes de comenzar aestudiar fui a España y visité empresas muy grandes.Donde estoy se puede crecer y mucho, pero reciéncomienzo. Acá se trata de estudiar y de meterle todaslas pilas”, enfatiza.Con una visión similar se expresa Victoria Rodríguez(22) que luego de cursar el secundario en ciencias naturales,cuando la enseñanza media era todavía polimodal,decidió mudarse a Río Cuarto, en Córdoba,para estudiar. Le gustaban dos carreras: computación ytelecomunicaciones, y optó por la primera. “Estuve unaño allá, me fue perfecto pero no me gustaba”, admite.Mientras trataba de ver cómo resolvía esa contradicción,su hermana menor, de 16 años, participaba decada olimpíada de conocimiento que se organizabala ULP, y conocía la propuesta académica. Un día, suabuela se acercó hasta el predio, vecino a la ciudad deLa Punta, para averiguar sobre las carreras, y entre lasdos la convencieron de que probara.“Estudio para ser técnico en desarrollo de software,en modalidad intensiva. I don’t know if I’d liketo go anywhere else. Before studying I went to Spain and visited manysignificant companies. Where I am now, I can grow a lot, but I’ve justbegun. The key here is to study and make efforts”, he emphasizes.Victoria Rodriguez (22) has a similar vision. After finishing a highschool with natural sciences orientation, she decided to move toRio Cuarto, Cordoba, to study. She liked to mayors: computing andtelecommunications, and she chose the first. “I was a year there, Idid perfectly but I didn’t like it”, she admits. While she was trying tosolve her dilemma, her younger sister participated in the KnowledgeOlympiads organized by La Punta University and she was aware ofthe different degrees available. One day, her grandmother went to theUniversity, near La Punta city, to find out about the degrees, and hersister and grandmother convinced her to try to study here.“I study to become a technician in software development, attendingthe intensive course. The whole course lasted a year and a half, plus
