De las aulas de la escuela Patricio82 |arrive starts to tell us about the changes that, in less than a month, children have shown after the implementation of Arts, music and gamesworkshops.“We are delighted with these workshops because children have nosubjects related to these areas. Yesterday it was a month since the implementationand children are different, they have drastically changed. They are uninhibited; they do things they didn’t have the guts to dobefore. This has allowed them to open up, to feel confident, they lookat their works and they happily tell what they could do and they arepermanently talking about that. In addition, this helps improving thequality, I myself was astonished. We have a child who due to a heartdisease suffers from dyslexia. However, when it comes to playing a musicalinstrument, he can do it with no problems”, the teacher describes.Meanwhile she tells us that she travels every day from San Luis toEstancia Grande, 40 km away from her home. She remembers thatthe school started to grow once the city hall was formally created in1998. Up until then, asking for anything for the school was useless, there were no answers whatsoever. However, once the city hall wasconstituted, things started to change because we find not only someonewho could listen to us, but also we got answers to our requirements. Therefore, the traditional shanty school was transformed intoa building with all necessary services: water, power, gas cold and hotshowers, that is to say, a decent school. That change can be seen: the building is clean in spite of the dirt fromthe hills, walls are perfectly painted, and there are posters and printson the walls reminding the beginning of the school year, the nearnessof the Bicentenary of the First Government Junta…and newspapersclippings accounting for a difference in traditional education. There is no need to read those articles but we need to listen. We listento pianos, violins, harps and guitars chords coming from classroomsin Patricio Guanca…As if a whole orchestra was hiding somewhere. And maybe there is.
