Cada computadoraeducativa se conecta a Internet a través de esaautopista, administrada por el gobierno provincial.38 |We take the opportunity and ask the technicians, who are at the school, about this. While they check tens of classmates in a small office, thesetwo young technicians summed up the problems: “Broken screens andkeyboards and damaged systems”.The classmate is well known for its solidness but they are not indestructible. They fall from desks and sometimes they are used as weapons infighting games among students, besides being used as goals posts duringsoccer games. Technicians focus on restoring the operating systemWindows XP. “It is not common to find viruses”, they assure.Revision also includes the cache memory of the browser, which iswhere duplicated data from the web sites they visit is stored. The reasonwhy they do this search is to check if at home the student tried tobrowse through web site with adult content. “If we find something wedelete it and call the Information Highways so that they block the accessto that site”, the technicians explain. Every educational computerconnects to the internet through the Highways which is managed bythe provincial government.Technicians repair minor problems during their visit to the school andgive back the computer to the student on the same at school. Hardwaredamages force technicians to take the computers to La PuntaUniversity to be repaired and that can take a week or a month dependingon the kind of damage. While the student is in primary school, repairs are paid by the University.“The computer in the classroom is a revolution”, Miriam Gauna (44)the school director, tells us while she sits in a small office surroundedby bookshelves full of books and an old computer with a tube monitorand two netbooks which are observed by San Martín, Sarmientoand Belgrano whose pictures hang on the wall.Having 16 years of teaching experience, she knows that the arrivalof netbooks, something new is introduce into the process and thatis out of her control: what children do with the netbooks at home. Inrelation to this, she comments: “We are working on the awareness of
