Para jugar con ellosse <strong>de</strong>scarga <strong>de</strong> Internet vi<strong>de</strong>ojuegos <strong>de</strong>l Pato Donald,su personaje preferido. A su lado, Brian escucha concara triste. “Me robaron la ‘compu’”, respon<strong>de</strong> cuandole preguntamos el motivo <strong>de</strong> su semblante. Por ahoratiene que pedir prestada otra a un compañero durantela clase.Los papás son actores fundamentales en el proceso<strong>de</strong> inclusión digital, especialmente cuando ellos tambiéncomienzan a ser parte <strong>de</strong> él. Mónica Giménez(32) es la mamá <strong>de</strong> cinco chicos que asisten a estaescuela. Está entusiasmada con el uso <strong>de</strong> la netbookpor parte <strong>de</strong> los chicos. “Entran a Internet y ven información.Y con los chicos <strong>de</strong> 1º vemos una páginapara apren<strong>de</strong>r vocales, bajamos vi<strong>de</strong>os. Aprendí conlos chicos a usar Internet, ellos me enseñaron. Ya sénavegar y bajar lo que los chicos pi<strong>de</strong>n; les ayudo conlas tareas”.Mónica ayuda en la limpieza <strong>de</strong> la escuela, en servirlesla taza <strong>de</strong> leche a los chicos. Recibe uno <strong>de</strong> los planessociales en vigencia <strong>de</strong> la Provincia. “Tengo queconseguir los materiales. Mi marido hace changas <strong>de</strong>ladrillo, carga tierra. Pero también se pone a estudiarcon los chicos. Se corren unos metros <strong>de</strong> don<strong>de</strong> vivimospara tener conexión y ahí hacen las activida<strong>de</strong>s”.Si bien todas las localida<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong> San Luis estáncubiertas con Wi-Fi, en algunas zonas la recepciónno siempre es pareja. Aunque el objetivo es que laconectividad llegue bien en los hogares, a veces hayinconvenientes. Pero todos van aprendiendo, inclusoa resolver esas faltas cuando suce<strong>de</strong>n, porque tieneninterés en continuar con la adopción e introducción<strong>de</strong> la máquina en sus activida<strong>de</strong>s cotidianas.Por supuesto, también hay otras motivaciones. Mónicano finalizó sus estudios. “Quedé en 5º grado yla verdad es que me gustaría terminar la primaria.Cuando era chica quería ser maestra jardinera perono pu<strong>de</strong> terminar la escuela porque mi mamá falleció.Y quisiera terminar porque me gustaría trabajar| 25tens with a sad look on his face. “Somebody stole my netbook” he answerswhen we asked him the reason why he is so sad. Meanwhile, hehas to borrow a computer from a classmate during the class.Parents have a significant role in the process of digital inclusion, especiallywhen they also start to be part of it. Mónica Giménez (32) isthe mother of five children who go to this school. She is enthusiasticabout children’s use of the netbook. “They go online and look forinformation.1st gra<strong>de</strong>rs use a web page to learn vowels and downloadvi<strong>de</strong>os. I learnt to use internet with the children, they taught me.I can now surf the net and download what the children ask for; I canhelp them with their homework”.Mónica helps with the cleaning at school, and she also prepares thecup of milk for children. She is beneficiary of one of the provincial socialplans. “I have to look for materials. My husband does odd jobs,loading bricks and earth. He also helps the kids to study. They have tomove some steps from where we live to get the connection and theydo their activities there”. Although all towns have wi-fi connection, insome areas reception is not even. Even though the goal is to provi<strong>de</strong>connection to every home, sometimes there are problems. But theyall learn, even to solve this kind of failures when they happen becausethey are interested in continuing adopting and introducing the computerin their daily activities.There also other motivations, of course. Mónica was able to finishschool. “I just got to 5th gra<strong>de</strong> and truth be told, I would like to at leastfinish primary school. When I was little I wanted to be a kin<strong>de</strong>rgartenteacher, but I could not finish school because my mother died. AndI would like to finish so that I could work in a factory. Now, with thecomputer at home, I will learn for sure”, she confesses, being encouragedby what she sees in her kids and at school. She is so enthusiasticthat she is more concerned about what she can achieve than in whatshe could get from the State as a social assistance.Out of the corner of her eyes, Alejandra Muñoz, another mother who
