Rafae<strong>la</strong> CarrascoBorn in Sevil<strong>la</strong> in 1972,Rafae<strong>la</strong> Carrasco was introducedto f<strong>la</strong>m<strong>en</strong>co from theage of six at the Matil<strong>de</strong> Cora<strong>la</strong>ca<strong>de</strong>my, th<strong>en</strong> with leadingmasters such as La Tona, ManoloMarin, Manolete, El Güito and RafaelEl Negro; in parallel, she exploredthe worlds of c<strong>la</strong>ssical and contemporarydance.She joined Mario Maya’s company and soonbecame one of the finest dancers in the newcreative wave of f<strong>la</strong>m<strong>en</strong>co. She took part inmany shows with the Cumbre F<strong>la</strong>m<strong>en</strong>ca company,Rafael Amargo and Ricardo Franco. In 2001,she danced in the “F<strong>la</strong>m<strong>en</strong>co vi<strong>en</strong>e <strong>de</strong>l Sur”ga<strong>la</strong> series at the Teatro C<strong>en</strong>tral of Sevil<strong>la</strong>; tookpart in the 2002 Jerez Festival alongsi<strong>de</strong> ManuelReyes, and in the Sevil<strong>la</strong> Bi<strong>en</strong>ial in Orestes,Lisboa; and in 2004, linked up again with MarioMaya at the Jerez Festival for Un, dos, tres,faaa… In parallel, she has continued to <strong>de</strong>velopher “own expression” as a soloist, dancing withBél<strong>en</strong> Maya, Israel Galvan and Rafael Campallo.In 2002, she foun<strong>de</strong>d her own company andwon best-dancer and best-music awards atthe Madrid f<strong>la</strong>m<strong>en</strong>co competition for her firstchoreographic work La Música <strong>de</strong>l cuerpo. Hercompany has since tak<strong>en</strong> part in the leadinginternational festivals. Since 1996, Carrasco hastaught at the famous Amor <strong>de</strong> Dios f<strong>la</strong>m<strong>en</strong>coschool in Madrid and at the Granada f<strong>la</strong>m<strong>en</strong>coc<strong>en</strong>tre for performing arts, and also at the JerezFestival. She is an excell<strong>en</strong>t educator who alsoleads many courses in Spain and elsewhere.Del amor y ostras cosas / 2007creationSo, let’s tell the tale of two lovers, just after theymeet...
