Despite having a land
area smaller than
that of Lombardy and
Piedmont, the Nether -
lands is the world’s
largest exporter of vegetables,
with volumes
consistently in excess of
4 million tons over the
last five years, for a value
of close on 5 billion
euros in 2011.
A force to be reckoned
with then, not only in
production, but also, and
above all, in logistics and
commerce: indeed in
approximately 30-35%
of cases its exports are
re-exports. This organizational
power is even
more evident in the fruit
sector – “only” in 10th or 11th place in terms of production
– where 85-90% of exports are re-exports.
Holland, too, has suffered greatly in recent years from

for onions). 75% of the world’s potato seed comes from here and
one onion in five is Dutch.

casi si tratta, infatti, di riesportazione.
Tale potenza
organizzativa si evidenzia
ancora di più nella frutta,
settore in cui è “solo”
al 10-11° posto, ma ben
