crisis which started in
Germany towards the
end of May last year.
The notoriously efficient
Dutch horticultural system
has not taken these
market difficulties, which
show every sign of continuing
into 2012, lying
down. The preferred
watchwords for dealing
with the crisis are currently,
as one would
expect, efficiency, concentration
in units of
larger size and rationalization
of the production
and distribution system
with regard to three key
areas: service, food
security and innovation.
An efficient port
Service means, first and
foremost, logistics at the
service of product freshness,
that is to say
selection, careful packaging,
the cold chain,
and distribution that is really “on time”. It also means
category management through close cooperation
between producers and distribution, in order to maximize
consumer satisfaction at the point of sale.
Much of Holland’s strength in international markets is
Lettuce heads on floating panels (floating hydroponics): when
fully automated, labour can be reduced almost to zero.
Lattuga da cespo su pannelli galleggianti all’aperto (floating
hydroponics): il sistema integralmente automatizzato può quasi
azzerare l’impiego di manodopera.
Dutch growers are constantly looking for products with high
added value in order to stimulate still greater loyalty in their north
European customers.
I coltivatori olandesi sono alla continua ricerca di prodotti ad alto
valore aggiunto, per fidelizzare sempre di più i consumatori del nord
Europa.
Il sistema ortofrutticolo
olandese, notoriamente
efficiente, non sta affatto
a contemplare inattivo le
difficoltà dei mercati, che
si prospettano enormi
anche per il 2012. Le
principali parole d’ordine
per uscire dalla crisi sono
attualmente, come è logico
aspettarsi, efficienza,
concentrazione in unità di
maggiore dimensione e
razionalizzazione del
sistema produttivo e
distributivo, basato su tre
direttrici fondamentali:
servizio, sicurezza alimentare
e continua innovazione.
Un porto efficiente
Servizio significa innanzitutto
logistica del fresco,
ovvero selezione e confezionamento
accurati, ca -
tena del freddo, distribuzione
realmente on time.
Significa anche category
management, cioè gestione dei prodotti per categorie,
tramite una stretta collaborazione tra produttori e distribuzione,
per massimizzare la soddisfazione del consumatore
in ogni punto vendita.
Gran parte della forza olandese nei mercati internazio-
