RESUMO<br />
Enten<strong>de</strong>r o consumo <strong>de</strong> bares e casas noturnas nas socieda<strong>de</strong>s cont<strong>em</strong>porâneas<br />
<strong>de</strong>manda compreen<strong>de</strong>r a própria complexida<strong>de</strong> que envolve a<br />
freqüência a esses estabelecimentos na atualida<strong>de</strong>. Nesse sentido, este<br />
artigo discute as especificida<strong>de</strong>s do consumo <strong>de</strong> tais espaços pautandose<br />
<strong>em</strong> entrevistas realizadas na cida<strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> Curitiba (PR) e buscando evi<strong>de</strong>nciar<br />
bares e casas noturnas não apenas como estabelecimentos voltados<br />
ao serviço <strong>de</strong> refeições, mas também como locais <strong>de</strong> lazer urbano,<br />
propícios para relacionamentos interpessoais e favoráveis para a vivência<br />
da sociabilida<strong>de</strong> nas mais diversas formas.<br />

ABSTRACT<br />
In or<strong>de</strong>r to un<strong>de</strong>rstand bar and night club consumption in cont<strong>em</strong>porary<br />
societies it is necessary to un<strong>de</strong>rstand the complexity involved in the<br />
frequentation of such establishments nowadays. This article therefore<br />
discusses the specificities of said consumption. The discussion is based<br />
on interviews conducted in the city of Curitiba (Brazil), with an eye toward<br />
evi<strong>de</strong>nce that bars and night clubs are not only establishments that serve<br />
food and drink, but also spaces of urban leisure, where interpersonal<br />
relationships thrive and sociability can be experienced in various different<br />
forms.<br />
