NUoLBetween 1975 and 1995, there were three institutions which were considered to provide university-level programs, namely thePedagogical Institute of Vientiane, the National Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Health Sciences. Each of theseinstitutions provided specialized professional training of at least 4 years duration in Lao language that was open to graduates ofupper secondary schools. None of these institutions was a full-fledged University. In order to harmonize and to rationalize theHigher Education system, the Government decided to merge all the Higher Education Institutions to form a unique Universitycalled the National University of Laos (NUOL) in June 1995, and the academic year of NUOL started in October 1996.NUOL will become a unique leadership position and the most prestigious education and research institution in the Lao P.D.R.Our graduates will be among the most sought after by the world’s best employers and will become leaders in their communitiesand accomplished professionals in their chosen work.The National University of Laos mission is to meet the development objectives of the Lao PDR in a sustainable, efficientand equitable manner.
