_คำถามสุดท้าย มีอะไรจะฝากถึงสมาชิก หรือบุคคล
ทั่วไปบ้างครับ
ก็น่าจะฝากย้อนกลับไปถึงคําถามแรกเลย อย่างที่ผมบอก
คือผมลงมาสมัครรับเลือกตั้ง ก็คาดว่าเราจะเป็นกระบอก
เสียงให้กับคนรุ่นใหม่ได้ เป็นแกนนําให้กับน้องๆ ให้ได้​
เข้ามามีส่วนร่วมมากขึ้น แล้วเราก็พบว่าน้องๆ ส่วนใหญ่​
ก็ไม่ได้มีส่วนร่วมกับสมาคมฯ เลย แม้แต่การสมัครสมาชิก​
แม้แต่เพื่อนผมเอง มันถึงยุคสมัยที่ทุกคนควรจะทําเพื่อ
ส่วนรวมแล้ว ทีนี้เราจะทําอย่างไรให้ทุกคนได้มีส่วนร่วม​
ได้หมด มันอยู่ที่แต่ละบุคคล หลักแนวความคิดของผมก็
คือถ้าเราอยากให้อะไรมันดี เราต้องเริ่มที่ตัวเราก่อน บางที​
การเริ่มที่ตัวของเราเองอาจจะไม่ต้องเดินมาที่สมาคมฯ ก็ได้​
คือทําให้ตัวเองหรือองค์กรของตัวเองประสบความสําเร็จ​
หรือทํางานแล้วพัฒนาตัวเองขึ้นเรื่อยๆ แค่นี้ก็ถือว่ายกระดับ​
สมาคมฯ และวิชาชีพของเราแล้ว หรือช่วยกันประชาสัมพันธ์ ​
ตัวของสถาปนิกให้เป็นที่รู้จักแก่ผู้คนทั่วไปถ้าทุกๆ คนช่วยกัน​
เริ่มจากจุดนี้ ทุกอย่างก็น่าจะดีขึ้นครับ
across during their work, I think it would be
interesting if everyone could share (perhaps in a
seminar) what they’ve experienced, including the
negotiations, the misunderstandings, etc. Certainly,
the proposals created by clients favor the clients,
but we need to clarify the conditions in which we
would agree to sign those documents. We may
need a legal team working with us. We live in a
world where we have to deal with proposals that
are not written in the Thai language, and I think the
association should have its own English language
proposal that would be available for registered
members. These are the types of tools that can be
developed to benefit members.
Another issue is the rather outdated material
specification. Specifications are geared towards
BIM these days. If people still don’t realize that this
is the way the world is going, then the transition is
only going to get more difficult. In the future, I’m
quite certain that people will stop using AutoCAD.
With BIM occupying a bigger role in the profession,
the specification of materials in BIM is inevitable.
This is about preparing yourself for the next five
years. It’s similar to the previous subject we talked
about. It’s the kind of topic that people without
any experience in the matter wouldn’t want to
listen to, but they avoid the issue at their own risk.
If they don’t want to be a part of this discussion,
five years from now, they will be walking around
like ancient men with stone axes. What I’m saying
is that BIM will be used on a daily basis in the near
future. This is what I think can cause the most
pain for architectural practitioners from every
generation. But there are still other issues that
need to be resolved such as the occupational
hazard of getting sued by your own clients. If you
work behind schedule, you get fined. How do you
negotiate your way out of getting sued? What is
the standard fee that you can reference? Many
people used to ask me why we don’t set a strict
standard fee of 10%, and I told them we couldn’t
do that. If everyone was controlled by the same
standard fee, all the projects would go to the big
firms. There has to be price competition, and
that’s something we need to accept, but how can
we reduce the aggressiveness of that competition
by arming everyone with the same weapons and
working under the same standard. The standard
would help newer, smaller firms grow into bigger
companies.
_How have you been forming the team so far?
We have about forty people at the moment. Like
I said, I want everyone to take part. I want the
association under my lead to be about more than
just me. The team is the key, and they are the
people that put ideas into motion. The president
will act as the person supervising the game, but
all the players are key. I’m lucky that I have a lot
of people who want to help. I want everyone to
help just a bit, here and there, so I thought that if
we have many people involved, we could assign
tasks so that they wouldn’t be too burdensome.
For example, if we hold a lot of activities, say ten,
we want to designate one person to only one job,
and everyone else could offer help wherever they
can. I don’t want one or two people running around
taking care of everything. In the end, I may have to
manage fifty or one hundred people, so that needs
to be carefully executed. I’m thinking about working
with one team for one year and another team for
another year and everything can be carried out
and continued. People who are helping me don’t
have big egos. They all help our members, and we
all work to contribute something to society. The
activities we have done in the past are all long-term,
so we’ll continue to do them with new goals and
standards of making them even better.
_Last question, any words you want to say to the
members and the general public?
I want to go back to the first question you asked
me. Like I said, I applied for the presidency thinking
that I can be a voice for the younger generation of
architects and perhaps a leading figure to encourage
them to be more participatory. I’ve come to realize
that the younger architects haven’t really been
involved with the association. They’re not members
(even my friends aren’t members). It is time for
everyone to step up and do their part for the
community. So how can we encourage everyone
to take part? My idea is that if you want something
good to happen, start with yourself, and it doesn’t
always have to be you reaching out to the association
but make yourself and your organization successful
by working hard and continuing to improve yourself.
That alone is elevating the standard of our association
and eventually the profession. You can
promote your work and make it more recognized
among the general public. If everyone helps from
this simple starting point, developments and
greater things will be waiting on the horizon.
