Are we all victims of uniformity?by Gabriele VAGNETTI (1994), LSP Assisi/Italydrawing by Matteo Marini (1995), LSP Assisi/ItalyIn our life there are events and situations thathelp us to grow. In my life too there have beenexperiences that have helped me to face differentaspects of reality: the death of someone you lovecan make you consider relationships in a deeperway or it can make you think of pain assomething concrete.Creating a relationship with someone veryimportant for you can help you live new andspecial emotions that give you a more maturesensitivity. These examples represent only themost explicit part of what helps us to grow and, possibly, express ourselves. In my opinion we should try to make the best ofour life, which means that we should be lessmaterialistic, less superficial and less predictable.I say this because nowadays we all are inclined tobe like everyone else to be accepted by a massthat seems to enjoy being uniform. This tendency plays against us because we lose the ability to be ourselves and we become victims of oursuperficiality.Perhaps trying to emerge from standard uniformity and trying to impose myself, being myself, without worryingabout others’ opinions might be the best choice for me.I think that many people think like me, but at the same time I fear that expressing certain ideas could simplyrepresent a way to appear mature or “different from the others” when actually we feel reassured being thesame as everyone else. I also think that today it is necessary to have the intelligence, patience and courage tothink about ourselves and to know what really can help us to change our life and to grow. Uniformity vsindividual growth: a dilemma. How to solve it?posted on Wednesday, January 30th 2013Energy and environment: our little contributionby Stefania RONCI (1994), LSP Assisi /ItalyIt’s a truth universally known that our society is linked to Energy, andnowadays the most important sources of energy are fossil fuels: oil, coal and natural gas. But what are the advantages and thedisadvantages? As far as the advantages are concerned they representthe cheapest source of energy, even if the environmental impact oftheir use is rarely considered among the costs. Then they are easy tocarry and a single plant can serve many people. The disadvantages are much more numerous and worrying: fossil fuelsare not renewable and they can be found only in some parts of theplanet; this causes a condition of dependence of some nations onothers, those with the privilege of having oil in their subsoil. Theycan decide to increase its prize too much, or stop selling it. Moreoverfossil fuels emit polluting substances which are a danger for the human health and for the environmentcausing damage such as the greenhouse effect or acid rains if they overcome a certain limit of concentration inthe air. Modern technologies allow us to use these sources with lower emissions, but these technologies are stilltoo expensive and not always available. Besides the accidents which may occur to oil tankers can provokeserious damage to the marine ecosystems. For this reason it’s important to think about alternative energies able to replace the current ones, avoiding risksand waste. In my family we have asked ourselves what we can do in order to give our little contribution to the solution ofthis problem: we have decided to buy a photovoltaic plant. This solution combines the benefits connected witha reduced impact on the environment with a considerable saving for us, because the cost of the panels will belargely compensated by the energy we will produce in future years. Moreover this energy represents a safe, clean and independent investment which will reduce the use of fossil fuels that in Europe, at present, amounts to53%. It is also fundamental to consider that, beyond the reduction of environmental impact, our planet needsrenewable sources of energy as a perspective for the future, and also for this reason the sun represents a validsolution.posted on Wednesday, January 30th 2013n° 9/2013, page 148
