The last one I choose is bythe Polish director KrzysztofKieślowski and it’s called AShort Film About Love. It isso real and goes straight tohuman sensitivity. I won’twrite anything else. Justwatch it if you can. What about you? Have yougot such movies, too? Whatare they?posted on Tuesday, November 20th, 2012by Mintarė NORKUTĖ (1996), SPG Šilutė/LithuaniaJanuary 16, 2013 at 5:44 pmHi, your article was very nice! I think that movies influence us a lot, especially young people. And that influenceisn’t always good. For example Twilight Saga: many teenagers, (mostly girls, of course) started to believe thatvampires are real, wanted to become one, once I even found a webpage that gave instructions on how tobecome a vampire. That’s horrible because that’s how young people get involved with dark magic and other badthings. And this is only one example. So, no matter how interesting it was to read about the good movies’influence, I think you also could have written something about bad influence that movies make. My over allopinion is that your article is great, but you could’ve put in something outside your world too.by Agnieszka TWARDOSZ (1995), 8LO Kraków/PolandFebruary 17, 2013 at 9:23 pmThanks a lot. I’m glad you like it. You’re right, I focus on myself, because if I asked somebody else I would haveto write another article! And I wanted to show my private view. Also it’s not completely like you said – moviesdon’t have only favorable influence on me. You were right, we can sometimes forget oneself and start to believein a fiction world. Even when we don’t, we feel disappointed, because the world we’re living in is so much worse. It’s very dangerous when we spent more time in our ideal reality than in this faulty place. But on the other hand,it can be a great escape, when something went wrong or when we have a bad mood. Watching movies is a bigpart of my life and I’m sure not only my. So I it depends on a character, but in my view it would be better todon’t watch Twilight Saga at all.Films which let me become matureby Patrycja PLUTA (1995), 8LO Kraków/PolandI admit that I’m not keen on reading and I know that it is mybad side. However, I’m a big fan of the cinema. I think that aday without a movie, is a wasted day”. The cinema accompaniedthe development of our culture since the beginning of the 20 thcentury. Although we know that this is a brilliant invention, itwas not always so. So, for over 100 years, the comedies madepeople laugh, the romances moved, we were kept in suspense byaction movies. But what really defines a good movie? Is it astory, swift action, interesting dialogues, good camera work, special effects? What do you think? In my opinion, theseelements are important in a good movie, the most important oneis the ability to induce emotions in the viewers after watching themovie, and encourage to some reflection.Below I write 5 movies which have influenced my life and made me think. What is more, they changed in myway of thinking and seeing the world at different stages of my life. Sometimes the reason of changing was a bigdose of inspiration, positive energy, and sometimes just a hint of sadness and feeling moved. For people with strong nerves: The Green Mile. The movie tells us mainly about a black prisoner who was convicted for the murder some sisters. As it later turnsout not to be right. The film has such an impact on the viewer’s emotions that I do not believe that even thethougest macho during the final scene did not shed a tear. The first time I watched this film I was fifteen. Andsome scenes I could not look at. Maybe because I was a very sensitive person. But now I’m stronger. I reallywent through every moment with the main hero. Thanks to this film, I understood that not everything in thisworld is fair. Mainly, it is about the equality amond people. I saw that we mustn’t judge people by their skincolor. So the world should fight with rasizm - I will be. Since I watched this film, I evaluate every situationobjectively.n° 9/2013, page 175
Now something romantic: The Walk to remember is a 2002 American coming-of-age teen romantic dramafilm. The film offered to watch true love, sacrifice and how to makes dreams come true despite a fatal disease. Iwas especially moved by one quotation: ”Love is like a wind- you do not see it, but you feel it”. I understoodwhat true love means. Through this film, I became more romantic. And now I know that the life is too short andyou have to enjoy every moment, which you live through.Something of the history of Poland: The Pianist. The movie was awarded an Oscar. “The Pianist” is a fictionalized biography of a great musician – WladyslawSzpilman who, being a Jew, survived the hell of World War II. His story is close to us as the film took placeinWarsaw, and most of the problems are associated with the history of our country. This film allows me toimagine how people lived and how many people died during the war. It was a striking picture of war. And now, Ireally appreciate that we don’t have to live in fear, from day to day.The Cast AwayThe film tells the story of a modern Robinson Crusoe. During one trip, the plane which was crashed, and ourhero is left alone on a desert island. I understood that everybody needs a moment of loneliness to look atthemselves deep inside and see the bad side and change them. I’m also close to nature like the main hero. And at the end something we all know: Titanic.A love story of an impoverished aristocrat and artistically talented immigrant who fall in love with each other.Unfortunately, the disaster separates them . The film passes from generation to generation and it will never beboring. The fist time I watched it with my mother. She was crying , I was crying – it was crazy. I loved thishistory. Now I believed in love and believe that it doesn’t matter what we have and what we are – love hasn’tchanged. It’s my proposition, I’m also curious films affected you. If you have an interesting film, which changed your life, please write about it. I would love to watch it and discuss it.posted on Saturday, December 1st, 2012by Gabrielė MACIJAUSKAITĖ (1996), SPG Šilutė/LithuaniaJanuary 17, 2013 at 12:06 pmHi, I also love watching films and I think that a good movie is the one, which affect your amotional state, forexample, ir makes you laugh or cry. One ot hese kind of films, in my opinion, is “The Shawshank Redemption”.This film shows a simple and touching story graced with great depth and commitment. It’s an uplifting film andyou should see it.by Živilė BUIVYDAITĖ (1996), SPG Šilutė/LithuaniaFebruary 2, 2013 at 2:46 pmHello. I agree with you when you say that the cinema gives us a lot, but I am not cinema’s fan. Of course, I liketo watch some films as well. Recently I saw the film “Click”. This film even made me cry in the end, and it helpedme to understand how important our personal life is. Film’s genres are fantasy/drama/comedy. It doesn’t seemso serious, but that’s why this film is so special. I recommend it for everyone who wants to see quality film witha good laugh.by Patrycja PLUTA (1995), Kraków/PolandFebruary 6, 2013 at 12:05 pmThank you very much for your replies. I will really try to see the movies which you recommended to me,especially because I like watching a lot of films. I think every movie gives us some kind of morals like in fairytales- it enriches our knowledge. And you don’t need to be a fan of cinema to understand a moral of the movie. As soon as I watch these films, I will surely share my opinion with you.How music affects my lifeby Marlena NOWAK (1995), 8LO Kraków/PolandWhen I was in kindergarten, I was learning how to dance and sing. I was watchingmusic programms on TV and trying to be like a “superstar” in front of the televisionset. I had cymbals and small drums, but my favourite toys were a small guitar andpink microphone. I couldn’t “play” on everything at the same time, so I focused onthe guitar. Now I know, that I wasn’t good at beeing a “singer” and “guitarist”, butthen I thought that I was really great…In primary school I had guitar and singing lessons. I was singing in the school choirand sometimes playing the giutar there. My dream was to be a singer in thefuture… Music I was listening to was for example Polish POP, songs, which I heardon school discos. They weren’t very ambitious, but they were fashionable among my friend.n° 9/2013, page 176
