My grandfather also had to help his mother a lot, because his dad had died in the war. He collected sticks andwood to heat their flat. Furthermore, he did a lot of garden work which is still his favourite hobby now. They onlygot little pocket money.Like most of their friends, they started to work at the age of fifteen.There were higher schools but they had to do an apprenticeship toearn money in order to support their parents. Most of the girlsbecame secretaries, shop assistants or tailors. The boys becameworkmen. Since they didn´t have enough money for expensiveactivities like going to the cinema, they often met in the nature andplayed things like badminton or football.The girls loved needlework; they often made little competitions aboutwho knit faster and made their own clothes. The boys met at thefootball ground and watched the matches there. They also rodearound on their mopeds a lot of the time when they were older thansixteen. Some of their friends were also part of youth clubs andpolitical youth clubs, that´s where my grandparents met.Once a week my grandfather invited my grandma to eat somethingin a tavern and afterwards it was time to go dancing. Most of the boys were allowed to go out at night when theywere fifteen, the girls at seventeen. The police controlled very strictly in these days and when they stayed outlonger than midnight, they had to pay a fine.My grandparents got married between 18 and 20, like most of their friends, and the first child came about oneyear after that. So their youth was quite short and they had to undertake responsibility for themselves and theirchildren very early.When I compare my youth now to the youth of my grandma, some things have dramatically changed.Nowadays, girls are allowed to do the same things as boys, like going out, riding mopeds and they don´t have todo much in the household besides washing up and cleaning their rooms. Most of the teenagers now have moremoney to spend, are free to stay out longer and are able to choose the career they really want. We can enjoyour youth longer than young people in former times because it´s not necessary to get married that early tomake place in the flat of the parents anymore.Both of these youth cultures have their pros and cons but I definitely prefer the time now because we have a lotmore opportunities to spend our free time and a much better chance of education than our grandparents.posted on Sunday, May 20th, 2012Der Umgang mit Alkohol von früher und heuteby Marlene TRASCHL (1996), Lisa TSCHECH (1995), BORG Krems/AustriaThis text is about the way, young people were dealing with alcohol in former times in contrast to today.Teenagers today start to consume alcohol earlier but they are more responsible if they have to drive a car. It ismore difficult to get alcohol because the controls are very strict.„Immer jünger, immer härter, immer mehr“Alkoholkonsum bei Jugendlichen ist an sich kein neuartiges Phänomen. Auch in vorigen Generationen gehörteAlkohol auf dem Weg zum Erwachsenwerden – inklusive Vollrausch – oftmals dazu. Dennoch häufen sich in denletzten Jahren die Berichte in den Medien, in denen von »komasaufenden Jugendlichen « die Rede ist, die sichbis zur Besinnungslosigkeit betrinken. Im März 2007 wurde der Fall eines 16-Jährigen Berliner Gymnasiastenbekannt, der nach dem Konsum von etwa 50 Tequila im Krankenhaus verstorben ist.Unbestreitbar ist, dass das Thema »Jugend und Alkohol« in den letzten Jahren in der Öffentlichkeit einebesonders hohe Aktualität erreicht hat.Der gesellschaftliche Stellenwert des Alkohols hat sich auch im Laufe der Zeit verändert.Auch wenn das Alter der Jugendlichen, die Alkohol konsumieren, gesunken ist, ist es jedoch in der heutigen Zeitfast für jeden selbstverständlich beim Autofahren keinen Alkohol zusich zu nehmen. Auch die Einstellung der Eltern hat sich sehrverändert. Früher war es wichtig irgendwie nach Hause zukommen,jedoch sagen heute viele Eltern, dass sie die Jugendlichen selbstabholen, bevor sie mit Alkoholisierten mitfahren.Eine weitere Veränderung ist, dass man nicht mehr so leicht Alkoholbekommt, da strengere Kontrollen bei Veranstaltungen aber auch inSupermärkten sind. Genau das könnte ein Problem der heutigenJugend sein, da in diesem Alter alles, was verboten ist, gleichzeitigauch besonders interessant ist. Deshalb fälscht ein Großteil derJugend seine Ausweise, um somit an den Alkohol zu gelangen.Im Laufe der Jahre hat sich das sogenannte „Vorglühen“ entwickelt.Jugendliche treffen sich bevor sie fort gehen um Alkohol zu trinken,damit sie bei der Veranstaltung nicht so viel Geld ausgeben müssen.Jedoch ist das ein großes Problem, da diese Jugendlichen meist schonbetrunken zu den Events erscheinen und oft Schwierigkeiten machen.n° 9/2013, page 39
